Local flavors
You won’t find fine-dining restaurants on every corner in the Pueblos Blancos villages – and that’s exactly what makes dining here special. Local eateries, ventas and bares, offer honest, seasonal food often based on family recipes.
Here, siesta culture applies – most restaurants are open for lunch between 1–4 PM and reopen for dinner from around 8–8:30 PM. In between, it’s time to pause – from eating, noise, and hustle.
Must-try dishes include:
- Salmorejo – creamy cold tomato soup
- Revuelto de espárragos – scrambled eggs with wild asparagus
- Carrillada ibérica – slow-cooked pork cheek
- Tortilla de patatas – traditional Spanish potato omelet
- Surtido de jamón y queso – ham and cheese platter
Our nearest places to eat are in El Gastor and Montecorto. The closest larger grocery stores are in Algodonales (about 10 km) and Olvera (about 15 km). There are smaller shops, a bakery, a grocers, a butcher and a fish shop in El Gastor.
The local cuisine is defined by simplicity, freshness, and slow enjoyment – just like life here.
